Since the Edo period, Shinkawa has prospered as a district of wholesalers of high-grade sake called ‘kudari-zake’ from the Kinki region.Shinkawa Dai-Jingu is a Shinto shrine that was founded in 1625, and is dedicated to the guardian deity of sake wholesalers.
In those days, ‘kudari-zake’ was shipped in barrels by cargo vessels called ‘taru-kaisen’.The barrels were wrapped in straw to prevent damage, and unique designs for distinguishing the barrels from other brands were drawn on the surfaces of the barrels.
The sake barrels dedicated where were donated by sake brewers from across Japan, including members of the ‘Shinkawa Dai-Jingu Keishinkai’.
We are grateful to the brewers who have dedicated their sake at Shinkawa Dai-Jingu.We also pray for the continued prosperity of the liquor industry and all of the other industries involved in maintaining Japan’s traditional food culture.
